DAKAR, Senegal June 25, 2026 Senmixmaster, Africa’s first AI-powered audio mastering and audio enhancement platform, today announced the public launch of a pioneering research platform tracking the exposure of Senegalese artists across major generative AI music training datasets represents the first systematic effort on the African continent to map the intersection of cultural music heritage and AI data rights. However, the presence of a work in a dataset is not sufficient to establish with certainty that it has actually been used because generative AI companies often rely on several datasets, the absence of a given work does not allow us to conclude that it has not been used either. The initiative emerged from a single, urgent question: As generative AI music grows, where is Senegalese music in the data? Senmixmaster’s research team decided to trace Senegalese artists in AI training data,Senmixmaster’s research team conducted a rigorous analysis of 57 Senegalese artists spanning Mbalax, Rap, Hip-Hop, Afrobeats, R&amp;B, and traditional musical forms cross-referencing public dataset signals from collections comprising over 21 million songs, including LAION-DISCO-12M and Sleeping-DISCO-9M, YouTube visibility footprints, and potential licensing exposure to produce a visual, navigable map of where Senegalese music may already exist within the systems training Gen AI music tools. Behind every data point is a real catalog. Voices. Rhythms. Cultural memory. Musical forms that have defined Senegal’s artistic identity for generations and that are now, potentially, teaching machines.<\/p>

Generative AI music does not emerge from nothing. These systems learn by ingesting existing recordings, styles, and public catalogs often without attribution, or compensation of the original creators. “This is not only about technology,” said the Senmixmaster Founder and Ceo Boubacar Djiba. “It is about consent, attribution, licensing, and making sure African creators are part of the conversation, not just part of the dataset.”<\/p>
